SECRECY IN GOVERNMENT-DOES NEVADA HAVE A SHADOW GOVERNMENT?

Chapter 3

Congratulations to Monte Curtis, Scott Buerge, Mike Farran, Warren Schooley, and Dr. Ron Jones who are the members of the Nevada Airport Board. We ought to make these members the Nevada Economic Development entity.  They have brought more industry to Nevada in the past three years than the City Council or anyone else.  Not only have they brought income of over $500.00 every month for the City Airport, but their employees rent property in Nevada and are an asset to our community. I am talking about the Air Methods Corporation which located their MedFlight helicopter at the Nevada Airport.    This will bring faster emergency medical treatment to Nevada and the surrounding territory.

Not only has the Airport Board brought a great service to Nevada, but its members have supervised the construction of a new runway and a new functional airport building and hanger.  We need more business people in Nevada on our commissions and boards.   They know the value of money and won’t waste it.

Let’s hope that the City Council will take note and approve appointees to city boards and commissions who have new ideas and not continue the practice of appointing the Mayor’s “secret government” friends to one board after another.

Also, congratulations to the City Council and City Manager for obtaining new lighting for the Camp Clark exit and the new cost efficiency lighting on E. Austin St. This will light up our main interchange and give our town a welcoming and inviting appearance.  I think Councilperson  Jane Novak mentioned the lack of lighting and the rest of the City Council and the City Manager jumped right on it .  Whatever it cost will be money well spent. It will be the latest high mast lighting system.  KCPL also gets a vote of thanks for converting a large part of E. Austin St. to sodium vapor lighting.  Much brighter and more appealing.  I understand that as the old mercury vapor lighting burns out it will be replaced with sodium vapor.

On March 1, 2007 the Nevada Daily Mail asked the candidates for City Council at that time to answer questions about their candidacy.

Read Mayor Mike Hutchens’ answer to the question:  What makes you the best candidate? Answer: “People want to know that the interest of the citizens of Nevada is of primary concern and not the self-interest of any individual (s).  And they want the established rules and policies of government to be followed.”  Why do you want to be on the City Council? Answer: “I do not have any self- interest in the decisions to be made as a councilman except the same interest you have.  That interest is watching Nevada prosper and grow through a government that conducts itself openly and for the people.” (Emphasis ours.)

After reading Chapters 1 and 2 of this investigative report which tells of secret meetings and violations of the City Charter and City Code, what is you opinion?   Do you think our Mayor’s answers to these questions were really sincere?
